Psychology under the
Comcare scheme
If you have an accepted Comcare claim and you are looking for a psychologist to support your recovery, we can help. Behavioural Edge Psychology provides therapy for Commonwealth employees and others covered by the Comcare scheme, with particular experience in workplace psychological injury.

We understand that making a claim, recovering, and thinking about work can be demanding at the same time. Our role is to give you a steady, confidential space to work on what matters to you, at a pace that suits you.

What the Comcare scheme is
The Comcare scheme is the Commonwealth workers compensation scheme established under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (Cth). It covers many Australian Government employees and the staff of organisations that hold a self-insurance licence under that Act. Where a claim for a psychological injury is accepted, the scheme can fund reasonable medical treatment that relates to the accepted condition, including psychology sessions.

Who this service is for
This service is for people with an accepted claim under the Comcare scheme. We work with people recovering from work-related psychological injury, including stress, anxiety, depression, and the effects of difficult or harmful experiences at work. If you are unsure whether your situation fits, you are welcome to ask before booking.

How treatment works under Comcare
Funded treatment under the scheme relates to the condition that has been accepted on your claim. Your sessions focus on your recovery, your day-to-day function, and where it is relevant to you, your return to work.

Treatment usually begins after your claim is accepted and your treating doctor has identified a need for psychological support. The scheme funds treatment that your claims manager approves as reasonable for your accepted condition, and that approval is commonly managed through a treatment plan with progress reports. We confirm what has been approved with you before booking ongoing appointments, so you always know where you stand.

Where your sessions are approved, fees are billed directly to Comcare or to your self-insured licensee, and you are not charged out of pocket for those approved sessions. We keep you informed if anything about your funding changes.

My approach
I am Dr Sarah Fischer, Principal Psychologist at Behavioural Edge Psychology. I am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA and holds endorsement in organisational psychology.
My work is trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming. That means we pay attention to safety, choice, and pace, and we adapt how we work to suit how you think and process. We draw on evidence-based approaches and tailor them to you rather than applying a single method to everyone.

Behavioural Edge Psychology is a specialist practice with experience supporting people in regulated and high-stakes professional roles, where the pressures of the work and the stakes of a claim can sit closely together. You will be met with respect, discretion, and a clear explanation of how everything works.

Getting started
The simplest first step is to talk with us about what you are looking for. From there we can guide you through confirming your funding with your claims manager and arranging your treatment plan.
You can begin in three ways. You can speak with your claims manager about a referral for psychological treatment, ask your treating doctor to note the need for psychology support, or contact us directly so we can talk it through and confirm the arrangements together.

Once approval is in place, we will book your first appointment and agree on a rhythm of sessions that works for you.

Frequently asked questions

Will I pay anything for psychology sessions under my Comcare claim?
For sessions approved under your claim, fees are billed to Comcare or your self-insured licensee, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for those sessions. We will let you know if any service falls outside your approval before it goes ahead.

How many psychology sessions can I have under Comcare?
The scheme funds treatment that your claims manager approves as reasonable for your accepted condition, and ongoing treatment continues under a treatment plan that is reviewed as your needs change. We review your progress with you and let you know where your approval stands.

Am I eligible for psychology under a Comcare claim?
The scheme covers many Australian Government employees and the staff of organisations that hold a self-insurance licence under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (Cth). Funded psychology relates to a psychological injury that has been accepted on your claim. If you are not sure whether your situation fits, you are welcome to ask us before booking.

How is Comcare different from WorkCover or TAC?
Comcare is the Commonwealth scheme for eligible Australian Government employees and self-insured licensees. WorkCover is the Victorian state scheme for work-related injury, and TAC covers injury from transport accidents in Victoria. The right scheme depends on your employer and how the injury arose. We can help you work out which one applies to you.

Do you offer sessions in person, by telehealth, or both?
I offer both. You can see me in person at my consulting rooms in Caulfield South or St Kilda, or by telehealth from wherever suits you. Many people use a mix across their treatment, and I am happy to work out the arrangement that fits your circumstances and how you are feeling week to week.

What psychological conditions can be supported under a Comcare claim?
We work with people recovering from work-related psychological injury, including stress, anxiety, depression, and the effects of difficult or harmful experiences at work. The condition accepted on your claim governs the treatment the scheme will fund, and we work within that.

What if my employer is a self-insured licensee?
The same general principles apply. Some approval and treatment plan requirements are set by the licensee rather than by Comcare, and we will confirm these with your claims manager, so nothing is left unclear.

Is what I say in sessions kept private?
Your sessions are confidential, with a small number of limits set by law and professional obligation. To run your treatment under the scheme, we share treatment plans, progress reports, and invoices with your claims manager, and we explain exactly how this works before you begin.
