TAC Psychologist Melbourne
TAC-registered provider in Caulfield South and St Kilda, Victoria. Specialist psychological treatment for transport accident injury.

Behavioural Edge Psychology is a Transport Accident Commission (TAC) registered provider offering specialist psychological treatment for people injured in transport accidents in Victoria. If you have been in a car accident, motorcycle accident, cycling accident, or pedestrian incident, you may be eligible for TAC-funded psychology sessions to support your recovery.

What is the TAC?
The Transport Accident Commission is Victoria's statutory insurer for transport accidents. If you have been injured in a transport accident in Victoria and have an accepted TAC claim, the TAC can fund psychological treatment to support your recovery. This means that, with an accepted claim and a referral from your GP or treating doctor, you can access psychology sessions at no out-of-pocket cost.

Who can access TAC-funded psychology?
To access TAC-funded psychology, you need three things:
-
An accepted TAC claim. If you have been in a transport accident in Victoria and have lodged a claim with the TAC, your claim number will be on your TAC correspondence.
-
A referral from your GP or treating doctor specifying psychology treatment related to your transport accident injury.
-
Capacity to attend sessions at our Caulfield South or St Kilda rooms, or via telehealth across Victoria.
How TAC funding works
The TAC funds the first six psychology sessions in the first 90 days after your accident on your doctor's referral, without needing prior approval from the TAC. Beyond six sessions, or beyond the initial 90-day period, your psychologist will submit a treatment plan to the TAC requesting further funding. Treatment plans are normally approved if the treatment is reasonable, necessary, and related to your transport accident injury.

There are no out-of-pocket costs to you when treatment is TAC-funded. The TAC pays the practice directly.

What I can help with
Transport accidents can have a profound psychological impact, even when physical injuries are minor. Common psychological responses I treat include:
-
Post-traumatic stress, including flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and avoidance of driving or travel.
-
Anxiety, including travel anxiety, panic, and generalised worry about safety.
-
Depression, low mood, and loss of motivation following injury or lifestyle disruption.
-
Adjustment difficulties, including grief for lost function, changes to work capacity, and relationship strain.
-
Chronic pain and its psychological impact, including pain-related distress, sleep disruption, and reduced quality of life.
-
Driving and travel phobias, including fear of being a passenger or using public transport.
-
Complex presentations where the transport accident has interacted with pre-existing psychological conditions, neurodivergence, or previous trauma.
My approach
Treatment is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and tailored to your goals. I work with established therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), schema therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. The choice of therapy depends on your presentation, your preferences, and the evidence base for your specific concerns.

I work collaboratively with your GP, specialists, occupational rehabilitation providers, and your TAC case manager so your recovery is coordinated. The aim is for you to move towards independence, meaningful activity, and a return to work and daily life at a pace that suits you.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to pay anything for TAC psychology sessions?
No. If you have an accepted TAC claim and a doctor's referral for psychology treatment, the TAC funds your sessions in full. There are no out-of-pocket costs.

How do I start TAC-funded psychology?
Contact Behavioural Edge Psychology with your TAC claim number and a GP referral specifying psychology treatment for your transport accident injury. The practice will book your first appointment, typically within two weeks.

What if I have developed driving anxiety after my accident?
Driving and travel anxiety is one of the most common reasons people see a psychologist after a transport accident. Evidence-based treatments, including graded exposure and trauma-focused therapy, are highly effective. Treatment is tailored to your specific situation and goals.

Do I need a referral?
Yes. You need a referral from your GP or treating doctor specifying psychology treatment for your transport accident injury. The TAC requires the referral before it will fund sessions.
Can I have telehealth or do I need to come in person?
Both options are available. Telehealth is offered across Victoria where clinically appropriate. In-person sessions are available at Caulfield South and St Kilda.

How long will I need treatment?
Treatment length varies by presentation. Many people recover within 8 to 12 sessions, while complex presentations involving chronic pain, multiple injuries, or pre-existing trauma may need longer treatment. Your psychologist will discuss expected duration with you after the initial assessment.
